Buddhism is a relatively new topic for most Americans. In the 1960's there was an explosion of interest in the Buddhist philosophy largely inspired by the 'free thinking' generation of the 1960's, the Beatles who travelled to India to study this 'new age' way of approaching life, and a general movement towards asking what and why in a fast moving scientifically progressing world.
